AFAD Donates to the Idaho Suicide Prevention Hotline
For the last 27 years, the Fun Run has been held during the annual Air Force Appreciation Day (AFAD) event. The Fun Run raises funds for an organization that helps military members and their families. This year, the AFAD committee connected with the Idaho Suicide Prevention Hotline. The Idaho Suicide Prevention Hotline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, as well as prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones.
The Idaho Suicide Prevention Hotline Staff provides services to Active Duty, Dependents, Veterans, which make up approximately, 20% of their calls annually.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, AFAD hosted a virtual event that included runners, not only from across the state, but nationally. Jennifer Gilbert (Chamber of Commerce Staff) and Betsy Hiddleston (AFAD Committee Chairman) were able to present a check for $1,760.00 to Wendy Young, Fund Development Specialist, Idaho Suicide Prevention Hotline Organization. Young thanked the Chamber of Commerce and AFAD committee for the donation. She also mentioned, in the current environment, funding is always appreciated and will go towards continuing their mission.
The Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce is a 501(c)6, non-profit organization. The Air Force Appreciation Day committee under the Chamber of Commerce has coordinated the celebration for the past 60 years. The event consists of a community barbecue, parades, vendor events, corn shucking, fun run/walk, and a flyover from our local military base.
